Renowned globally for our quality and superior spinning characteristics, we offer the highest cotton grade, influenced by fibre length, strength, and color. Our clients can choose between extra fine, fine, and high medium cotton, typically used in ring spinning destined for combed yarn.

At Korti, we offer two cultivators:

  • Highly renovated extra-long staple Egyptian or Pima cotton (G. barbadense,) from Sudan;
  • The best quality long staple upland cotton (G. hirsutum) from Sudan and the USA

The most common cotton types:

Extra Long staple (G. barbadense, Egyptian or Pima)

  • Comprising less than 10% of all cotton produced globally and used primarily on the premium markets;
  • Fiber length is between 25 and 65 mm;
  • Luxuriously soft and feels like silk;
  • Brightly while and resistant to fading;
  • Incredibly strong and resistant to fraying, tearing, and pilling, primarily grown in Egypt, Sudan, and the USA.

Long and medium  (G. hirsutum or Upland cotton)

  • Comprising most of the cotton produced globally;
  • Fiber length is between 15 and 35 mm;
  • It’s the cotton we all know and love, soft yet strong, long-lasting, and low maintenance. Anything labeled “100% cotton” is likely Upland cotton;
  • Grown in many places globally, like China, India, Brazil, Argentina, Sudan, and the USA;

Short staple (G. hirsutum)

  • Fiber length between 8 and 25 mm.
  • Primarily grown in China and India;
  • Minimally used in the textile industry

Cotton makes more than half of the world’s textile fiber, and the textile industry consumes most of the cotton grown globally.   The cotton value is determined by the cultivator (species) and grade.

Cotton has been known and used worldwide for thousands of years. In Afro-Eurasia, cotton was first domesticated and cultivated around 5000 BCE by the Kush empire in the Nile Basin of Sudan, along with the knowledge of spinning and weaving the fiber. At the same time frame, The Indus Valley civilization also domesticated and cultivated cotton.

In the Americas, cotton dated to about 6000 BCE, as it was found in Peru; however, cultivation started after the Europeans’ arrival to the southern USA.

90% of today’s commercial cotton, approximately 25 million tons, stems from a plant native to Mexico and Central America.

Currently, the largest exporter is the USA, although China and India are the largest producers but consume most of their production domestically.

At Korti, we provide reliable supply and delivery of our client’s quality requirements in a sustainable way.
