Arabic Gum

World Leader

Having had an established presence in Sudan for many decades, Korti is a world leader in Gum Arabic supply and manufacturing. We exclusively harvest our Gum Arabic from the wild trees in Sudan, which is part of the Gum Arabic belt.

Sudan is the leading producing and exporting country of Gum Arabic, with a market share of over 60%.

France imports 70% of the World’s production of Gum Arabic, to be processed for food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and industrial use, with the remaining 30% going to the United States.

Also known as Acacia gum, it is obtained from the hardened sap of the Acacia tree, also called the golden tears, by locals.

The acacia tree can be harvested or tapped from 5 to 25 years old, and the harvest coincides with the dry season from December to early May.

Acacia gum is a highly-safe additive, a native source of soluble dietary fiber with prebiotic properties. It is widely used as an emulsifier and stabilizer and can be found in thousands of day-to-day products, including sodas.

Gum Arabic is historically essential for many products, including adhesives, textiles manufacturing, printing, lithography, indigenous therapies, and food preparation.

It is a natural ingredient used internationally in the production processes of numerous industries, including food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. It’s also in use for all those products in the premium sector of the market.

Acacia gum is known for its functional properties, which are in line with buyers’ expectations:

  • Environmentally-friendly ingredient/good for the ecosystem;
  • 100% plant-based;
  • GMO-free, not chemically transformed;
  • Pesticide-free;
  • Gluten-free;
  • Odorless;
  • Colorless;
  • Very low in calories.

Tapping and Collection - Gum Arabic Process:

  • Our farmers tap the tree by making incisions in the acacia tree branches;
  • The acacia tree exudes thick liquid sap to cover the artificial incisions (wounds);
  • Within a month or two, depending on the weather conditions, the sap concretes under the dry air and heat from the sun, creating a golden gum;
  • The gum is cut out of the acacia tree branches and collected;
  • The gum is dried further, sorted by size, grade, and type, and packaged to export
